Self-help groups, also known as peer support groups, provide emotional and social support, and practical help in dealing with a problem common to all members.
The Self-Help Connection is a Self-Help Resource Centre or Clearinghouse for hundreds of groups in Nova Scotia, including support groups for abuse, anxiety, stress, depression, manic depression, addictions, bereavement, eating disorders, parenting, caregiving, heart and stroke, cancer and divorce.- Looking for a self-help group? We can help you find the right group for you, or a family member or a friend.
- Want to start your own self-help group? If you cannot find a group to suit your needs, we can help you start your own group by providing you with information to start.
- Want to connect with others in your community who are interested in starting a group? We maintain a list of potential support groups and can connect you with other like-minded individuals.
- Are you a professional interested in finding the right group for your client, or helping your clients set up their own groups? We can help by providing you with a copy of our Self-Help Directory, fact sheets, research on the benefits of self-help and hands on workshops.
